As today’s World Mental Health 2024’s theme is “It is time to prioritise mental health in the workplace, we couldn’t think of a better time to think about the importance of fostering a healthy and happy work environment.
Regular readers will know that wellbeing in the workplace is something that is very important to us. From flexible working arrangements, encouragement to pursue personal and professional development, through to ensuring there is always a friendly four-legged Magrathean on hand to lend support and a wagging tail on a busy day (See our National Dog Day article here) – we believe that the happier and more supported you are in the workplace, the more this reflects in all of your interactions with friends, clients and beyond.
We tried to think about some of the things that are important to us in our working days, to ensure we are prioritising our mental health. Here are a few of the ways that work for us:
- Taking regular breaks. We encourage everyone to take breaks, including a full lunch hour (no sarnie at the desk!) to avoid getting bogged down plus encouraging us to share the workload and ask for help. Which brings me on to..
- Asking for help! A problem shared is a problem halved – similarly a different pair of eyes can bring a new perspective and some fresh thinking. We regularly collaborate and believe not only does it lighten the load, but it encourages you to talk and open up
- Working smarter – not harder. Prioritisation of time on tasks that are high-impact activities, and breaking larger tasks down into manageable steps. It can also help to automate more mundane tasks such as email sorting to help prioritise important messages or automating report generation to provide instant insights without the need for manual data compilation.
Ultimately, for us at Magrathea, fostering a supportive environment means that everyone looks forward to coming to work and contributing creatively and collaboratively. Having a mentally healthy and happy workforce also reflects in our client interactions, plus of course is very appreciated by our office canine companions!
