Celebrating National Dog Day

Posted on: 26th August 2024, by Magrathea

Ever since its inception in 2004, National Dog Day (also known as international Dog Day) is observed annually on the 26th of August by dog lovers across the country. It is an opportunity for us mere mortals to celebrate the love and loyalty of our canine companions. Dogs are more than just pets – they are an integral part of our families and our lives, they bring us joy, provide us with protection, guide us, alert us to emergencies, serve on the front line plus bring us companionship and unconditional love (well, almost unconditional…!)

At Magrathea, we embrace the work/ dog-life culture.  Our pooches are a frequent feature in the office (regular readers may remember Dash from our March Employee spotlight)  – so much so that we have dog beds and toys in our office and meeting rooms, filled water bowls, treats and plenty of fuss on tap. We know first-hand that having Fido in the office can help create a more relaxed and paw-sitive atmosphere. It gives us all something to look forward to and provides a mental break, bringing a smile to our faces and ensuring we remain a happy and motivated team!

National Dog Day does however remind us that many dogs are without homes or work-families to love.  Quite a few of us at Magrathea have given a forever home to a rescued soul, the aforementioned Dash being one of them. Another of these 4-legged Magrathean’s is Branston (below), who owns Alison our Strategic assistant. Branston came into Alison’s family’s life in 2017, and after a timid start soon had his paws firmly under the table. When Branston isn’t busy checking out his favourite sniffing spots around the village or ensuring only the right people are entering his house, he enjoys providing us here with a wet nose or wagging tail.

As rehome champions, we believe that If you have the space, time and love to give, adopting a dog is a win for you and your chosen canine. Local shelters are full to bursting post pandemic and by giving a homeless dog a loving abode, you will be making a tremendous impact on both your lives. And if you have the chance to (subject to any workplace restrictions) – why not enrich the lives of your fellow work colleagues and share the dog love around!
