October 2023 Newsletter

Posted on: 2nd October 2023, by Magrathea

Welcome to the latest edition of the Magrathea Newsletter, combining news from Magrathea and around the industry.

Information available to clients

We are hoping to provide a much easier to use knowledge base for our clients early next year but meanwhile, here is a reminder of the place to go for our guides, contracts and other useful information at your convenience: https://www.magrathea-telecom.co.uk/clientinfo/

Our client handbook has recently been updated to include some useful information when reporting faults, please take a look.

Restricted Tariff options

Our Restricted Tariff options offer you the ability to limit the destinations that can be dialled through your outgoing calling account. There are two options to limit the destinations you can dial by pence per minute on both the standard and gold route plans – you can choose either 3p per minute or 15p per minute as a restriction.

These changes can be made via our Client Portal or RestAPI, if you are not already using one of these tools or you cannot see the new feature down the left hand side of your Client Portal home screen, please contact us on support@magrathea-telecom.co.uk and we can very quickly arrange for you to have access to these tools, or to adjust your level of access so that you can use this feature.

Gold numbers

Gold numbers are available within all our number ranges. Memorable numbers or attractive repeating digit patterns will enable your customer to maximise their sales opportunities and will provide an excellent return on investment when used in advertising.

One off allocation fee for these numbers start from £100 upwards, please contact sales@magrathea-telecom.co.uk if you would like to discuss a quote for these numbers.

NICC publish CDB requirements

The NICC task group focused on setting out the requirements for a UK Common Telephone Numbering Database has been shared with Ofcom. This initiative, which potentially could be implemented subject to having a strong enough business case, has been prepared with a number of large and small operators as well has input from NCSC, Ofcom and other NICC task groups.

Magrathea have chaired the group and will be following up to try and ensure this very comprehensive piece of work doesn’t simply gather dust! Click here for the document .

Gaining Provider Led Switching & Porting

The One Touch Switching Company (TOTSCO) have now announced the official ‘go-live’ date – Thursday 14th March 2024.

Retailers are being onboarded now and, if this impacts you, you really do need to start following the updates if you don’t already. Details can be found on the TOTSCO website.

The business side is not so clear and we hope to share more updates on that in a few weeks specifically the idea of ‘express porting’ that Ofcom are urging industry to adopt. It is crucial that any process that we adopt is simple to operate and adds no additional complications to the already challenging process.

PSTN Shutdown

On the 5th September, ‘stop sell’ took effect meaning you can no longer order or modify a copper PSTN line in any place where this is an alternative. Take a look at our article which shows just how much has gone on in the world since this key milestone was announced! The article can be found here.

Comms Council UK Awards

We were proud sponsors of the 15th anniversary Comms Council UK Awards 2023. The ceremony took place on the 28th September at Tate Modern, the world-famous contemporary art gallery in London.

The whole team wish to congratulate each of our clients who were finalists year.

What’s on our minds…

We are disappointed that we didn’t manage to release our new Numbering Portal in time for this newsletter, as we said last month, however it really is only a matter of days away!

Meanwhile the team are turning their attention to fully testing the new Broadband portal that will follow soon after.

As always here at Magrathea we appreciate your comments and feedback, if there is anything you would like to contact us about, or you would like to opt out of receiving future newsletters, please email info@magrathea-telecom.co.uk

Kind regards
Magrathea
