March staff profile – Ben

This month we caught up with Ben – who joined us as a Porting Specialist, progressed to a Client Support Specialist and is now transitioning to a Network support position here at Magrathea.

We wanted to know a bit more about this means and find out a little bit more about him.

 

Ben – we last caught up with you back in 2020, when you had only been at Magrathea few months and were part of the porting team. A lot has changed for you since then! Tell us a bit about what you do today and what you enjoy about working at Magrathea?

Currently I am migrating between the client support team and the network team, acting as a middle man for any issues that might not require full technical team support. My day to day can include complex fault handling, carrier rates processing and supporting the network manager, whilst being on hand for any back up assistance for the client support team and the porting team.

 

What do you enjoy the most about working at Magrathea or your role?

The variety. Having worked my way through different roles at the company I have gained expertise at various levels, which means I am adept to support different areas keeping each day varied and interesting, plus it helps keep me in touch with the wider Magrathea team who, it goes without saying, are all a pleasure to work with!

 

And what do you least enjoy?

Ongoing faults… anything that lasts longer than a week is frustrating, as we all strive for a fast resolution for our customers, but sometimes it’s just not possible to due complexities or delays due to the length of a call path and how many suppliers are involved in the fault. Fortunately, these are rare compared with the majority of issues which we can quickly help our clients resolve.

 

Over the past few years, what are the most significant changes been?

The advancements in both our client facing and internal systems have been incredibly beneficial over recent years. We are expanding as a company and have recruited staff to roles that didn’t even exist when I started, so it is very exciting times here and we’re all feeling very positive about the future of Magrathea.

 

Is there any advice you would give someone thinking about getting into the telecoms industry?

Speaking from personal experience I would say not to worry about the lack of experience, I started at Magrathea with no background in telecoms and worked my way up from there. This is thanks to Magrathea’s positive and nurturing work environment, with plenty of training opportunities and co-workers who are always on hand to help with any questions.

 

And finally, how do you enjoy spending time outside of work?

Most of my time these days is taken up by my 1yr old son Freddie, who is certainly a handful! But when I have a rare moment to myself I enjoy discovering new music, I still collect vinyl records, much to my wife’s annoyance, mainly due to the space they take up, but also the cost….
