Welcome to the latest edition of the Magrathea Newsletter, combining news from Magrathea and around the industry.

 

One Touch Switching

We are pleased to see that some information has finally been published on the TOTSCo website (https://totsco.org.uk/news/).  They have provided two documents, the process design and a developers guide.  Please refer to the website to keep up to date with the news on this new solution that will be mandatory for any provide of IAS or NBICS services to residential consumers from April 2023.

 

GC Compliance – emergency services access

Ofcom regularly run monitoring programmes to look into whether telecoms providers are complying with the General Conditions around access to Emergency Services.

Magrathea offers a reliable and fully tested service to connect your customer’s calls to the Emergency Services.  To assist with your obligation to pre-submit your customer’s address data to the Emergency Services database, our straightforward APIs can be used for name and address submission. We can also provide daily reporting, so you can audit your own data against the records you have submitted to the EHA database via our API.

Our experienced team are on hand to assist with any questions you have about day to day issues or the wider implementation of the provision of emergency dialling. We were the first VoIP network in the UK to fully integrate with the Emergency Call Handling authorities and are still actively involved now with the industry and regulatory working groups in this area.

Customers who already have access to place calls to the Emergency Services, please be reminded that where a query is received by Magrathea from BT or the Emergency Handling Authority for one of the following issues, Magrathea will charge £20 per incidence as an administration fee

  • Incomplete or invalid End User data submitted via our NTS API to the EHA.
  • Call made to 112/999 where incomplete or invalid address data has beensubmitted for the CLI presented.
  • Call made to 112/999 where a valid CLI is not presented

 

International calls presenting in-country CLI

We are increasingly aware that many more International destinations do not allow calls that are originating outside of their country but that are presenting a local or in-country CLI. These calls will often be blocked or rejected by the far end carrier, or have a replacement network number inserted with the call passed as anonymous to the far end handset.

If you experience unexpected call failures to destinations that you know are valid, please do check to see if this circumstance could be the case. Unfortunately, as this is usually brought in as an anti-spam measure in place from the far end, there is typically no way to route around this but if you are in any doubt please send over the call examples and we can investigate.

 

Porting in the UK: Common Issues

At Magrathea our porting team work really hard to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible for our clients when moving numbers. We understand how important it is to get right and we’re very experienced at sorting out any issues when they arise.  However sometimes things happen outside of our control and you may wonder why problems occur.  Please find attached a customer information sheet on common UK porting faults, which explains some of the ‘mysteries’ of the porting process and what happens when things go wrong.

 

Magrathea Secure RTP

Magrathea’s Secure RTP product allows for both the voice and signalling traffic associated with a telephone call to be protected from interception and monitoring through the use of TLS to protect the SIP signalling and SRTP to provide encryption of the audio RTP traffic.

The product is designed to give you greater peace of mind about the integrity of the calls being sent to your network.

Gold numbers are available within all our number ranges. Memorable numbers or attractive repeating digit patterns will enable your customer to maximise their sales opportunities and will provide an excellent return on investment when used in advertising.

One off allocation fee for these numbers start from £100 upwards, please contact sales@magrathea-telecom.co.uk if you would like to discuss a quote for these numbers.

 

New Porting Portal

As you are aware we have fully released ‘phase one’ of the portal and the original portal will be shut down permanently from 18th November 2022.  Any clients who have concerns about this date, if you haven’t spoken to us already, should contact us so we can try to manage any problems you may be facing.

We would kindly request that all users start using the new portal immediately, it is crucial that you get familiar with it and ensure it serves your needs ahead of the full shutdown. The new release of our portal will now include the capability to view archived orders which will mean you will have access to old orders on the old portal.  If you have been submitting your single line orders via our original API please note that these orders do not yet appear in the new portal, you will be contacted separately about migrating across.
