Telephone Preference Service

Preventing unwanted calls and protecting consumers is a priority in our industry, and there is a great deal of pressure coming from regulators and government to deal with this traffic and minimise the risk to members of the public.

We are involved with many industry initiatives and working groups alongside other telcos who take their obligations in this area seriously, and as part of this commitment to consumer protection we have another service to offer our clients to help them with their responsibilities.

We are now able to offer TPS cleansing to our wholesale clients alongside our call termination services, to help them meet their obligations. One of the commitments that outbound contact centres making sales and marketing calls are obliged to undertake under the Privacy and Electronic (EC Directive) Regulations, is to screen their dialing lists against the TPS register so that they avoid making calls to a subscriber who has registered that they do not wish to receive these calls.

Our TPS cleansing service will certainly help our smaller clients who support these services, or those that such services only form a small part of their business andmay have found the cost of buying a TPS license and dealing with the regular updates tricky to manage.

Alongside the due diligence checks and call traffic monitoring being carried out at each step of the value chain, this is another tool that can be used to help reduce the impact of unwanted calls.  We are delighted to be able to bring this to the industry in a simple and cost-effective way.

Of course none of us are naïve enough to think solutions such as this are a silver bullet, there are plenty of unscrupulous parties out there who will continue making unwanted calls regardless until new processes for tracing calls and authenticating callers comes into being.  However by enabling and supporting as many legitimate use cases as we can we hope, at the very least, we can make it much simpler and affordable to do the right thing.
