It has been over 5 years since we last caught up with Tom – who is a tech support specialist here at Magrathea. He is usually busy deep within our datacentres, so being International Men’s Day, we thought it would be the ideal time to pin him down and find out what has changed in the last 5 years inside and outside of work.
Tom – you have been at Magrathea for 11 years so you have no doubt seen and been involved in quite a few changes. Can you tell us a bit about what you do and some of the most significant changes in the time you have been here?
As a member of the Technical Support team I assist with any client technical investigations and I also work on the network infrastructure assisting to maintain and ensure the network remains stable, resilient and working. Over my time the network has continued to evolve and looking back at how it was when I first started, it has changed considerably!
What do you enjoy the most about your role?
My job still offers huge variety, which means my days are varied and always offer me new and interesting challenges. I love the fact no two days are alike.
I work in a great team, knowing you can always get support if needed makes facing any challenges so much easier to handle and they are always up for a laugh too.
… And what do you least enjoy?
The early morning starts when you need to do some Data centre work are never fun!
When we last caught up with you, you mentioned that outside of work you enjoy time with your family, if not out running (or watching football down the pub!). We are interested to know what else you spend your time doing / are involved in?
Now my children are a bit older, like many parents my new hobbies are taxi driver and supporter while taking and watching them at the various clubs they attend each week.
I’ve got involved in the local Scouting group as a result of my dad duties, and am now a leader in the local Cub Scout pack.
Tom, it was wonderful being able to catch up with you – thank you for stopping for a moment to talk to us and we look forward to hearing more about your adventures as a Scout leader in future articles!
