Magrathea Newsletter – 11th June 2021

Posted on: 11th June 2021, by Magrathea

Welcome to the latest edition of the Magrathea Newsletter, combining news from Magrathea and around the industry.

Client Portal and RESTAPI update

We are pleased to say there has been another useful enhancement to our Client Portal and REST API, allowing customers to check their fund transfer history.

In the RESTAPI the call is /account/transferhistory – our up-to-date documents describe how to use this in full here: https://restapi.magrathea.net:8443/docs/

You will also see this in the Client Portal as Fund Transfer History. Hopefully these will prove useful!

Changes to charges to calls to UK Mobile networks

We appreciate the concerns you have around the origin based surcharging model that some networks have published recently that will impact on the calls you place via us. This is an industry wide change initially to UK mobile networks from 1st July and will also apply to fixed line calls from 1st August.

The surcharging will apply to destinations outside of Europe and North America but will also apply where caller ID is not supplied or is in an invalid format.  We anticipate that where the surcharge does apply it will vary between 0.02GBP to 0.25GBP.

As soon as we have any further information on what the surcharging will look like, we will pass this on to you.

The future for Magrathea interconnects

We recently published this article about our future plans to continue the growth of our IP interconnectivity. IP interconnects are a hot topic at the moment in the industry, so if you haven’t read it already here is the link!  https://www.magrathea-telecom.co.uk/the-future-for-magrathea-interconnects/

Reminder About Recycling Ported Numbers

We are aware of a situation that can occur whereby a range is imported for an end user, but then subsequently reused by the CP for another end user once the original end user has terminated their service. For example, an end user terminated service with their CP without porting the numbers elsewhere and the CP has reused some or all of those numbers.

Re-using ported in numbers in this way is prohibited under the industry porting guidelines and so you should take care to ensure this doesn’t happen on numbers that you have ported in for an end user. Once an end user has terminated service on their numbers, one of two things should happen. If part of a range is no longer in use, the unused numbers should be quarantined as they cannot be re-used. If it’s a complete range that is no longer in use, these should be returned to the range holder – we can arrange for this to happen if you email porting@magrathea-telecom.co.uk. We perform regular audits of numbering to make sure that where ported numbers have been deactivated, they are returned to the range holder where possible but if you can flag these to us as well that is really helpful!

Emergency Services Calls

If you do not already have access to 999/112 via Magrathea, we can offer a fully reliable service that has been extensively tested by the BT Emergency Handling Authority (EHA). Once you are signed up for this service, name and address data can be submitted via our API’s and 999/112 calls passed via your outbound account will be sent through to the EHA.

We are pleased to announce that following the success of special offers we have previously run, we have now permanently discounted the charge for the set-up of this service to £100 plus VAT.  If you would like more information on this service, please contact us on support@magrathea-telecom.co.uk or you can call us – 0345 004 0040.

As always here at Magrathea we appreciate your comments and feedback, if there is anything you would like to contact us about, or you would like to opt out of receiving future newsletters, please email info@magrathea-telecom.co.uk
