July staff profile – David

Posted on: 18th July 2024, by Magrathea

David is a Technical Support specialist, part of our team of engineers working on our network and dealing with client queries.  It’s been 2 years since we last caught up with David and he’d only just joined us, so we wanted to find out his thoughts now

The last time we caught up you were looking forward to the challenges of learning new aspects of the telecoms industry – how have things been going?

I knew when I started there would be a lot to learn and challenges ahead and I haven’t been disappointed. Ensuring our network is resilient and secure is vital and in the last couple of years I have been working with the team to future proof everything we do.  Because our network is wholly owned by us we have a great advantage as we’re not reliant on any 3rd party suppliers.  I’ve really enjoyed trips to our datacentres – they’re always an interesting experience.

So what’s the next challenge?

I think my challenge continues to be learning and building on my network and development skills.  Because we have such a knowledgeable team and we’re always looking ahead, there’s a lot of scope here to develop. I wrote about AI at the beginning of the year and I think that will also impact our network more and more, hopefully for the good.

What is your favourite thing about working here?

I think it’s being part of such a great team, my immediate colleagues are always there to support me but as a smaller business it’s easy to get to know everyone and I really enjoy the fun that we all have. We all work hard but it’s a very relaxed atmosphere and I love that we have dogs in the office. I have a cat, Molly, but not sure that she would enjoy the motorbike ride in or the company of a dog.

So, bikes are still your passion?

Definitely, obviously this time of year is much better for being on a bike and exploring places– or should be when it stops raining.

We can’t believe it’s been 2 years since David joined us; he’s become a valued part of the tech team and we look forward to seeing him continue to learn and develop in his role.  At least the weather is looking slightly better so hopefully he can get out on his bike a bit more, as long as Molly agrees of course, she looks very comfortable.
