February staff profile – Daisy

Posted on: 11th February 2025, by Magrathea

This month we caught up with Daisy – who is a porting administrator here at Magrathea.  As many clients know she was our porting team leader until she left us for a while to take important time out to raise her daughter! We feel really fortunate to have her back for a few hours a day, once again being a key part of our brilliant porting team processing pre-orders validation requests and generally being involved in all things porting!

Daisy – we last caught up with you back in 2019, when you had been at Magrathea 5 years. A lot has changed since then for you and us so we’re wondering how it’s all going?

Tell us a bit about what you do?

I am now responsible for processing Pre-Order Validation (POV) requests which essentially allow the end user to obtain the correct details to port their numbers and avoid their orders being rejected. Due to the way the current porting process works this has become a necessary implementation and for the most part a real help to end users. I also occasionally assist with day to day porting when my services are required!

What do you enjoy the most about working at Magrathea or your role?

First and foremost, it’s the people and for that reason, my days in the office are always my favourite!  I feel so so lucky to work for a company where everyone is valued, given the opportunity to take the path best for them and the flexibility to make it work. In terms of my role I do quite enjoy the more complex POV’s and figuring out gaps in the information given to us – it’s like solving a good old mystery! It also feels very satisfying to finally present a client with the POV details when you know how much effort has gone into getting them.

And what do you least enjoy?

It would have to be chasing the POV’s that haven’t been responded to in the 5 working days given. No one likes to be waiting longer than they have to, and I like to be able to turn my spreadsheet green! Thankfully these are few and far between for the majority of the time.

Over the past eleven years, what have the most significant changes been?

Well, after being away for almost 3 years the most notable difference to me was the increase of staff and it’s been lovely getting to know all those who have started in that time and afterwards. In terms of porting, it has always been an extremely busy department but it’s at a whole new level now and all of the team work so hard day in, day out. In the intervening years since I left lots and lots of hard work went into creating the new porting portal which helps no end to speed up some of the daily porting tasks with new elements being added frequently.

And finally, how do you enjoy spending time outside of work?

If I’m honest, nothing pleases me more than to go home to my daughter! She is turning 4 this month so I’m making the most of all the time I spend with her before she starts school later this year. She ropes me into her pretend games as soon as I walk through the door and like her mother before her she is a huge Disney Princess fan so this is fine by me! As any parent will know, the jobs are never ending so I’m always kept busy. I listen to the Harry Potter audiobooks on repeat and they always make any job infinitely better! In the moments where I find a free hour or two, it’s a choice of walking, reading, singing (I’m a huge musical theatre lover!) or playing Sims 4.  I’ve also become a bit addicted to buying and selling clothes second-hand on Vinted. It’s my little bit towards sustaining the planet as well as finding a bargain for my wardrobe!

Daisy – we love having you back and we know our clients do also. Thank you for taking the time to let us all get to know you a little better!
