Employee Spotlight: Tim W

Posted on: 11th August 2023, by Magrathea

At Magrathea, we are very lucky to have such a close knit and supportive team; we always make sure to take time to celebrate our new colleagues.

Tim joined Magrathea in June as a Core Network Developer. Our Core Network Developers design and develop the backbone of our telephony carrier network, facilitating connections from one system to another. Tim has been a great addition to the team. He is always willing to go the extra mile to help out and has already made significant contributions to the network development.

Q: What’s your favourite thing about working for Magrathea?

In Magrathea, there is a real sense of family, and you don’t feel excluded from that family even if you’re working from home. The company offers a variety of team meetings and methods of staying in touch with your team, where everyone can catch up and exchange ideas. The autonomy and independence in work are also appealing, since you are trusted to do your job to a high standard without constant supervision.

Q: Where do you see yourself in two years?

Still working for Magrathea, hopefully having being able to achieve a significant amount in terms of the network development by then. I want to continue to evolve and strive for excellence in my work. I also want to use this opportunity to learn new skills. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead and am excited to see what the future holds.

Q: What do you do in your spare time outside of work?

I’m a big fan of the gym but my main hobby is caving. I love exploring the underground and the adrenaline rush that it brings. Going caving is a great way to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself in a unique environment. It’s also a great way to connect with nature and appreciate the outdoors. I’ve explored many caves around the UK, and hope to see even more!

Q: What keeps you motivated at work, and what advice do you have for other new starters?

Having the ability to solve problems and take on challenges is something I enjoy very much. It is a great way to build resilience and to develop problem solving skills. It also allows us to learn from our mistakes and to develop a stronger understanding of our field. By pushing ourselves to take on challenges, we can learn to think critically and to come up with creative solutions to difficult problems, something that greatly helps me in network development.
