October staff profile – meet our Porting Team!

At Magrathea, smooth number porting doesn’t happen by magic (even if our MAGIC portal helps!) – it’s thanks to our dedicated Porting Team. Powered by tea, biscuits, and an occasional Hitchhiker’s quote, they are the specialists who make sure our client’s numbers move across networks seamlessly, securely and swiftly.

We asked Louise, who is a porting specialist in the team to summarise what the team does.

“We are here to help, whether that be in regards to processing your number ports, queries on ports, or information regarding ports! We will always do our best to be brilliant and provide you with the information/tools that you need in order to port your numbers as efficiently and as easily as possible.”

And Kelly, you are a porting administrator, what would you say is the biggest challenge the team solves for clients?

“Rejections probably, they come in all shapes and sizes, often lead to much confusion (especially when ports get incorrectly accepted). They take a while to unpick sometimes, but with some determination we always come to a conclusion we can work with and a way to progress the ports further. They can be complicated and cause a lot of back and forth but we get there in the end! My personal favourite is when both the LCP and RH cannot decide on who has the number!”

Jem – who is also a Porting Specialist – added:

“Also, with the amount of complex orders that require manual handling for our customers, it is always an interesting challenge to keep all the plates spinning. Liaising between many departments and providers to meet the deadline – who all use different processes and procedures, of course!”

Emma – what’s something people might not realise about your team’s role?

“We all help each other out as much as possible within our team. We communicate frequently about how best to approach situations and what we can be doing to help smooth the bumpy and messy world of porting. Nothing is ever linear and straightforward in this role and we all work together to make it as seamless as we can.”

If your team were a Hitchhiker’s Guide character, who would you be?

Due to the ages of the rest of the porting team, I am afraid no one else aside from myself [Bridie] has watched HG2G, read it or even listened to the great BBC Radio Version. (Sigh..Sob.). therefore, only I can relate to Arthur Dent!

Daisy – what keeps you all motivated when things get busy?

“We have found the best motivation is eating food, talking about food….  and who has the best lunch!”

Finally, Bridie – as you are the Porting Team Lead – how would you describe the team in three words?

“That’s a tough one.. I would say “persistent, precise and definitely patient!”
