Remaining independent for 25 years is no small achievement in a telecommunications industry shaped by technological change, evolving regulation and changing customer expectations. This month, Magrathea Telecommunications celebrates a quarter century of helping telecoms providers build and grow their businesses.
Founded in 2001, when Voice over IP (VoIP) was still in its early stages, the company has grown from one of the early specialists in IP communications into an established wholesale partner providing voice, numbering, connectivity and emergency services.
Throughout that journey, it has remained independently owned – continuing to invest in its network, engineering expertise and customer relationships as the industry has evolved.
The company became one of the first telecommunications providers to be allocated full number ranges by Ofcom for exclusive use over IP and has continued to invest in its own platforms, automation and technical capabilities. Today, the business continues to focus on delivering technically robust solutions backed by responsive, knowledgeable people.
Key milestones include:
- Founded in 2001
- One of the first telecoms providers allocated full number ranges by Ofcom for exclusive use over IP
- Expansion of UK and Irish numbering services
- Development of API-driven automation tools
- Founding member of Comms Council UK (formerly ITSPA)
- Ongoing contribution to industry bodies including FCS and NICC
Tracey Wright, Managing Director of Magrathea and Chair of Comms Council UK, said:
“When Magrathea was founded in 2001, we wanted to build a business that combined technical expertise with genuinely personal customer service. Today that ambition hasn’t changed.
Technology has evolved dramatically over the last two decades, but the importance of people hasn’t. Our greatest strength has always been our team and the relationships we’ve built with clients, partners and across the wider industry. Today, our team represents a remarkable 383 years of combined service at Magrathea. That depth of experience means our customers work with people who understand not only the technology, but also their businesses and the challenges they face.
Keeping our engineering expertise in-house means we stay close to both the technology and the people who rely on it. It allows us to make informed decisions, respond quickly and provide the kind of knowledgeable, personal support that our customers value.
In addition, being independently owned gives us the freedom to think long term, invest where it matters and adapt as the industry evolves. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come and grateful to everyone who has been part of that journey. Technology will continue to evolve, but expertise, trust and long-term relationships never go out of date.”
As it enters its next chapter, Magrathea remains committed to doing what it has always done: helping customers build successful businesses through technical expertise, long-term relationships and a personal approach.
