Posted on: 25th May 2018, by Magrathea

Good morning all!

Welcome to the latest edition of the Magrathea Newsletter, combining news from Magrathea and around the industry.

Congratulations to all the winners at the ITSPA awards
A very big congratulations to all the winners and all those highly commended as well, at the ITSPA awards yesterday. The awards ceremony was held at a fabulous venue – in the tropical gardens of Barbican centre in London – and was a brilliant celebration of all that is good in the VoIP industry.

Well done everyone, we were very proud to be sponsors again this year of such a great event. For more information on ITSPA and the work they do, please see here: http://www.itspa.org.uk/

Gold numbers and a thank you
You have received this email because you have opted in to receive newsletters from Magrathea but if you would like to opt out at any time please email support@magrathea-telecom.co.uk.

As a thank you for opting in, we would like to offer a 25% discount on gold numbers until 30th June 2018. If you have any open quotes at the moment, please contact us to have these revalidated with the 25% discount applied.

Gold or memorable numbers, ending 0000 or attractive repeating digit patterns like 808080 for example, will enable your customer to maximise their sales opportunities and will provide an excellent return on investment when used in advertising.

New report – Num-ext file
We are always keen to get your feedback on our services and make improvements where we can. By popular request we can now offer a new style number list via our FTP downloads site – in addition to the existing number list information, the new report will show you whether the number was allocated as part of a block and where it sits in the block, whether the number was ported in and whether there is any address data submitted to the Emergency Services for the number.

If you would like this report produced for your incoming numbers, please drop an email to support@magrathea-telecom.co.uk and we will get this set up.

Porting Workshop
We are planning to run our popular half day Porting Workshop on Tuesday 12th June and Tuesday 19th June at our offices in Theale, near Reading, Berkshire. We are inviting any clients who would like to increase their knowledge of portability and the Magrathea porting portal, to join us.

This workshop will be particularly suitable for anyone who uses our porting portal on a daily basis to submit port orders, and we welcome both long term portal users and also those in your organisation who are newer to the process. The workshop may also be useful to managers who oversee the porting process in your organisation, to help gain a better understanding of the process and the pitfalls.

We will cover a background of the industry portability process as well as how to recognise and submit different port order types via our porting portal. We will cover all of the order types and porting scenarios and the common rejection reasons. Our hope is that increasing knowledge in all of these areas will make the porting process run more smoothly for all sides.

If you are interested in attending, please email porting@magrathea-telecom.co.uk as soon as possible.

IP’s – yours not your clients
A quick reminder – if you use IP Authentication to send calls to Magrathea for wholesale call termination, for security reasons we advise that you only set up connections from equipment that is directly under your control – not from your client’s equipment.

GDPR
As you will all be aware, the new concepts and principles around data protection that come in as part of the EU General Data Protection Regulation will apply from today.

We are confident that we have always handled personal data in a correct way and will continue to do so now that GDPR applies. If you have any questions about how we deal with personal data, please view our privacy policy on our website and do get in touch if there is anything in particular you would like to know.

PRS and ICSS numbering review
Many of you will be aware that Ofcom is currently reviewing revenue generating numbers – especially 084 numbers – with their main concern being that consumers are being misled into making calls and incurring higher than expected call charges when they believe they are contacting direct customer service numbers, at lower rates. They would like to hear any examples of reputational damage to brands or any customer detriment caused following calls to these type of numbers. If you have any examples please send them to  Catie Craig on Catriona.Craig@ofcom.org.ukor or you can call her on 0131 220 7305.

Nuisance Calls
From October this year, Ofcom will have the right to withdraw number ranges from the range holder if they have significant concern over nuisance calls originating from a particular number range.
Whilst we make every reasonable effort to ensure our ranges are not involved with nuisance calls, due to the risk of the impact of ranges being withdrawn we are renewing our efforts to prevent and detect misuse and in turn encourage each of our clients to review their own customer base to ensure compliance with all current regulations and guidance.

As always here at Magrathea we appreciate your comments and feedback, if there is anything you would like to contact us about, or you would like to opt out of receiving future newsletters, please email info@magrathea-telecom.co.uk

Best wishes
Laura Moore
