This month we caught up with Adam – who recently joined us as a Senior Developer and is part of our highly skilled dev team. Adam is responsible for a number of our development projects, including delivering the products and features we need for both our team and our clients.
We took a moment to chat with him about his role – and to get to know a bit more about him.
Adam – tell us a bit about what you do at Magrathea?
I’m a developer here at Magrathea. I help to build tools that are used to manage internal processes and client interactions. I’m currently busy moving the remaining internal legacy codebases to different technology base; future proofing them to ensure they’re not left behind from the client facing ones. My favourite languages are PHP and Javascript but I stay flexible and use the best tools for the task.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The variation in technologies I have at hand. It’s never a dull day, and most days are not the same. I’m self-taught so am continually learning new and wonderful technologies, on both frontend and backend, not only to see if they are worth utilizing as part of my work, but also for the sake of improving myself and keeping my mind active.
What’s the most rewarding project you’ve worked on so far?
I have worked with some very interesting companies in my previous agency life. I’ve worked with all sizes of clients, from multinational listed companies to small local businesses and local government. From them all, the most rewarding one would be working on projects for Anthony Nolan the cancer trust, knowing that my albeit limited input was contributing to such an important subject and believing I was able to make some people’s lives easier.
What would be your go-to productivity hack or work habit?
Work habit, I always check industry news first thing in the morning, for a few minutes. My home page is an industry news aggregator so I’m always able to stay on top of industry trends and technologies.
If you had to describe your job using a film title, what would it be?
Everything, everywhere, all at once. Or the Matrix, because of course that’s what coding looks like.
And finally, how do you enjoy spending time outside of work?
I love to travel. Instead of an anniversary present each year, my wife and I try to visit a new country. We’ve been to quite a few now, Italy next. I also started woodworking a few years ago and converted my garage into a workshop. Once completed, however, it hasn’t been massively used so I shall be looking to start again in the Spring, or my wife will hijack it to make a gym. Eek.
You certainly sound busy inside and outside of work Adam! We look forward to hearing about your forthcoming Italian trip, Ciao!
