Magrathea announce decrease in 03 'UK Wide' number cost

Magrathea are pleased to announce that the price of 03 numbers will decrease from £1.00 per number per month to 50p per number per month from 1st October 2011. This brings the per number price for 03 numbers in line with our current 01/02 number charge.

The 03 numbers that we can currently supply are: 0303 numbers which are for 'not for profit' or government bodies and 0330 numbers which can be used by any organisation or enduser.

We can also supply 0345 and 0370 numbers to customers who already have the corresponding 0845 or 0870 number.

In addition to 01/02 geographic numbers and 03 numbers, Magrathea can also offer the full range of UK non geographic numbers including 0845, 0870, 0844, 0871, Freephone (0800 and 0808), premium rate 09, Personal numbers (07) and 056 VoIP numbers. We also have geographic and non geographic numbers for Ireland, and we can offer tollfree numbers in many countries Internationally. The Best Internet Telephony category, sponsored by Magrathea, was hotly contested by Adepteo, Birchills Telecom, Gradwell, Noble Solutions and Poundbury Systems Ltd but the judges decided that Entanet were this year’s fitting winners!

Ofcom announce a reduction in mobile termination rates

Ofcom today announced a reduction in mobile termination rates – the wholesale charges that mobile operators make to other operators to connect calls to their networks – designed to benefit UK consumers. From 1 April, Ofcom will place a cap on the rates charged by all four national mobile network operators – 3UK, O2, Everything Everywhere and Vodafone.

This will lead to around an 80% reduction in termination rates over the next four years.

We have been told that BT are unable to pass this price reductions on to us to start on 1st April and so we will update our mobile prices as soon as we are able to do so which will be by 1st May. We will do everything in our power to get these new rates to you as soon as possible, please look out for further updates as they become available.

Due to public holidays in the UK the office will be closed for normal business on Monday 27th & Tuesday 28th of December and Monday 3rd January. Urgent support issues will be dealt with as normal if you email support@magrathea-telecom.co.uk on these days. The porting desk will be closed for new business from Wednesday 22nd December and will return to normal on Tuesday 4th January.

Banks in the UK will only be open on the 29th, 30th and 31st of December during this time so please make sure you allow extra time for any bank transfers.

The third annual ITSPA award ceremony will take place on 7th March 2011 at the BT Tower (details can be found at http://www.itspaawards.org.uk/ ). UK mobile termination rates

We are aware that the rates charged for calls to UK mobiles have become increasingly erratic in recent months. This has been directly due to monthly price changes charged by the mobile networks themselves. Ofcom are proposing a change to the mechanism used for the price caps which should eliminate this issue, and have recently produced a consultation seeking comments on a change to their preferred approach to setting a pricing rule for the networks. Potential charge for geographic number allocations announced by Ofcom

Ofcom have announced that they are considering making a charge for all number blocks issued to companies with the idea of making efficient use of numbering more important. Further details in their current consultation http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/consultations/geographic-numbers/

We are pleased to announce that we can now support calls to the three-digit numbers that have been launched as UK wide 24 hour non emergency lines.

101 is a 24 hour number, currently in use by some police forces and local councils to deal with non-emergency crime, community safety and anti-social behaviour issues.

111 is a non emergency NHS telephone number for health advice and information on CP’s, walk in centre’s, dentists and chemists.

Calls to these numbers are now fully supported via Magrathea Telecommunications.

We can now also support dialling to 116*** numbers - these Pan-European 116 numbers were introduced last year so that callers can reach helplines using the same memorable number regardless of which EU country they are in.

The Internet Services Providers' Association (ISPA UK) has been organising the UK Internet Industry Awards since 1999 to herald the best of the Internet industry and to celebrate innovation and best practice. In 2002 the awards were dubbed The ISPAs.

The most eagerly contended category - Best Business ITSP (SMEs) - was won by iNet Telecoms (Voipfone), with Telappliant being Highly Commended. Magrathea congratulate them both for performing so well throughout the extensive testing process used to determine the outcome.

The judges in the Best Consumer VoIP category, sponsored by Magrathea, decided that Vonage with their V-Plan 4i were the company that had done the most to produce a well-rounded product for the consumer, combining value for money and features, as well as good customer service and guidance for the user.

Wokingham based Magrathea has seen sales grow 39% a year from 2.6m in 2005 to 6.9m in 2008 to take 97th place in the prestigious top 100 ranking.

Magrathea supply carrier services and managed solutions in all areas of telecommunications to internet service providers and telecom companies. Established in 1995 Magrathea has seen the industry grow and change and their experience and flexible approach are a key element to the service they deliver to their customers.
